The NUO Art Exhibition was officially unveiled recently in the art space on the left side of the lobby entrance at NUO Hotel Beijing, and your NUO art journey starts here.
Upon entering the space, guests will be greeted by the landscape paintings as if being surrounded by rivers and mountains. You can feel the artists’ condensed artistic conception, style and charm from the paintings, which is the subtlety of ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting – embracing mountains and rivers, and the world.
The exhibition works include a number of works by artists Tang Bohua and Ma Kelu, whose works are part of the hotel’s art collection system. Most of the works use landscape themes, rooted in the blood and spirit of ancient Chinese traditional painting. Among them, Tang Bohua’s “Untitled” was inspired by Xu Wei, a poet, painter and gourmet connoisseur in the Ming Dynasty. This series of works is presented in the form of printed wallpaper in Jia Chinese Restaurant. Through the concept of the cycle of seasons, the work that uses handmade paper to create takes us on a journey through time and space, while also referencing gourmet ingredients in different seasons.
Treading a common design inspiration throughout NUO Hotel Beijing are symbolic heritage footprints of a veritable who’s who of the Ming Dynasty. The era’s most renowned scholars and philosophers, artists, poets and calligraphers, innovators and explorers are represented. In homage to Ming Dynasty-era literary figure Wen Zhenheng’s book “Treatise on Superfluous Things”, in which he advocates that form should follow function, the guestrooms’ layout and design are reminiscent of an ancient Chinese intellectual’s residence. The large sculpture "Le Shan" in the lobby refers to “The door opens on a view of mountains” mentioned in "The Story of Kuaiyuan" by Zhang Dai, a great writer and historian of the Ming Dynasty. The large-scale wall artwork in Jia Chinese Restaurant was inspired by Xu Wei, a renowned writer, painter, and military strategist in the Ming Dynasty, and his free-style flower-and-bird ink-wash paintings. The culinary team of international experts at N’Joy All-Day Dining takes you on a journey of gourmet discovery adventure inspired by the seven great voyages of Ming Dynasty admiral and explorer Zheng He. Signature treatments at NUO SPA combine the power of the proprietary essential oils that are custom-created exclusively for NUO Hotel Beijing, inspired by renowned traditional Chinese physician Li Shizhen’s greatest contributions to Chinese pharmacology, “Compendium of Medical Material” and “Syllabus of Medical Herbs”. During a treatment, guests can also listen to a compilation of soothing music exclusively composed for NUO SPA —“Aqua mix incense”, inspired by the concept of the water section in “Compendium of Medical Material”.
Inspired by China’s rich heritage, NUO Hotel’s core philosophies are encapsulated by four key brand pillars: Chinese, Luxury, Contemporary and Green. Art is the best medium to convey the essence of culture, and Chinese art has therefore become one of the core experiences at NUO Hotel. Each future NUO hotel has varying cultural style and design inspirations according to the local historical and cultural background, making each hotel unique. Each new location will give NUO new inspiration to express the Chinese culture of a specific era or region with a new perspective, and share the national cultural treasures.
The exhibition is available till 2022.04.17
